WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) and Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-GA) re-introduced legislation that would restore appropriate tax deductions for advisory expenses related to funeral and cemetery trusts. This bill would restore deductions that were suspended by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017.

Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA), Rep. John Katko (R-NY), and Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA) today along with the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and the Human Rights Campaign, introduced the Safe Schools Improvement Act. This legislation would require school districts to adopt codes of conduct specifically prohibiting bullying and harassment on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and religion. Companion legislation is expected to be filed in the U.S. Senate by Senator Bob Casey (D-PA).

Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) designated $480,000 for the Los Nietos Sunshine Shuttle Electric Bus Service Replacement project in the INVEST in America Act, a $547 billion measure reported out by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee that will cover funding for highways, transit, and rail across the country. Sunshine Shuttle is a 3-route community shuttle system and connects regional and municipal transit services including LA Metro, Montebello Transit, and Norwalk Transit. The funding for this project was requested directly by Sánchez for a project vital to her constituents.

Sánchez. “Currently, the four-lane roadways approaching from each end of the Del Amo Bridge are forced to merge into two lanes. This creates a traffic choke point and puts drivers, bikers, pedestrians, and other commuters using the bridge in danger. I look forward to seeing this funding put to use and will work to ensure the impact construction has on our local residents and Coyote Creek is minimized.”

U.S. Representatives Linda Sánchez (D-CA) and Darin LaHood (R-IL), members of the Ways and Means Committee, along with Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) and Fred Upton (R-MI), have re-introduced the Concentrating on High-Value Alzheimer’s Needs to Get to an End (CHANGE) Act to encourage early assessment and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. With as many as 12.7 million Americans ages 65 and older expected to be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s by 2050, the legislation seeks to aide caregivers and accelerate progress to disease modifying treatments.
