FLORENCE-GRAHAM - On Saturday, November 15th 2003, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez welcomed area residents to the Roosevelt Park Recreation Center for a Cancer Awareness Fair. Presented in cooperation with Roosevelt Park and the American Cancer Society, the Cancer Awareness Fair gave participants the opportunity to receive free cancer screenings and preventive health care advice from professional medical personnel.

PARAMOUNT - Working to make college an achievable goal for every student, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez hosted “Thinking Ahead to College” on Saturday, November 15th 2003. 165 middle school students and parents from the Lynwood, Paramount and South Gate areas attended the program, where they received information and resources they need to succeed at the college level.

Lynwood - Working to attract new businesses and jobs to Lynwood, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-39) today hailed the awarding of a $948,100 federal grant to the non-profit Economic Resource Corporation business park in Lynwood. The funds will go towards the installation of a state-of-the-art, broadband computer network. The funding will be administered through the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA).

Held at the City Park, the fair offered an opportunity for parents to receive important information that they can use to help children stay safe in school and make healthy choices in life.

Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-39), along with eleven other members of Congress, commissioned a study on the effects of the so-called “Disabled Veterans Tax” which was released today. The report, titled “The Disabled Veterans Tax Impacts Thousands of Veterans in the Los Angeles Area,” found that disabled veterans in California lose $277 million dollars in benefits annually due to this tax.
“This is wrong and we must do something to fix the problem. Disabled veterans should be supported and not penalized for their service to our country,” said Congresswoman Linda Sánchez.
