Washington, DC - Working to improve the health, safety, and security of residents in the 39th district, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-39) today announced that she has secured $500,000 for the Gateway Cities Council of Governments (COG) to study congestion and emissions problems on key highways in the Southeast LA County region. The funds were secured in the Fiscal Year 2004 Transportation, Treasury and Independent Agencies Appropriations bill, which passed the House Appropriations Committee today. The bill is expected to be passed in the U.S. House of Representatives shortly.

Washington, DC - A congressional report analyzing the local impact of proposed Republican changes to Head Start was commissioned at the request of 13 Los Angeles area members of Congress. Under the new Republican reauthorization plan, sweeping changes could drastically undermine the program’s broad mission of comprehensive children’s services. The School Readiness Act of 2003, H.R. 2210 is expected to go to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives sometime this week.

This bill is expected to pass the House of Representatives shortly.

The bill is expected to be passed on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in the near future.

Sánchez got the project included in the Commerce, Justice, State Fiscal Year 2004 Appropriations bill, which passed the House Appropriations Committee this week, and is expected to be passed by the U.S. House of Representatives shortly.

As an original co-sponsor of this bill, Congresswoman Sánchez recognizes the serious problems that commercial alien smuggling creates.

Whittier -- Working to promote community public safety, and the safety of Whittier law enforcement officers, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (39-CA) today announced that the Whittier Police Department will receive $9,559 from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program. The partnership program provides up to 50% of funding for the purchase of bulletproof vests.

Congresswoman Sánchez is a sponsor of legislation that provides funding for the Federal Bulletproof Vest Program.

South Gate -- Working to promote community public safety, and the safety of South Gate law enforcement officers, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (39-CA) today announced that the South Gate Police Department will receive $6,146 from the U.S. Department of Justice Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program. The partnership program provides up to 50% funding for the purchase of bulletproof vests.

Congresswoman Sánchez is a sponsor of legislation that provides funding for the Federal Bulletproof Vest Grant Program.
