Sánchez (D-Calif.) released the following statement in response to President Trump’s latest threats to place tariffs on the European Union (50 percent starting June 1) and Apple (25 percent if it doesn’t move operations to the United States):

Sánchez (D-Calif.) introduced an amendment to provide Trade Adjustment Assistance to workers and small businesses displaced by trade. The Republican-led committee blocked the amendment in a 19–24 party-line vote

WASHINGTON – During the markup of the Republican tax bill, Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee Ranking Member Linda T. Sánchez (D-Calif.) introduced an amendment aimed at ending President Trump’s reckless trade agenda. 

Despite the clear economic consequences of the president’s tariffs, the Republican-led committee blocked the amendment in a 19–26 party-line vote, putting every Republican member on record for the first time in support of the president’s chaotic trade policies.
