Washington, DC – Representative Linda Sánchez (CA-38), Chairwoman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and a member of the Ways and Means Committee, today released the following statement on the Senate confirmation of Roberta Jacobson to be the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico:

“I’m relieved the Senate has finally acted to confirm Roberta Jacobson to be our ambassador to Mexico. There was never any justification for holding up the nomination of such a qualified candidate. Sadly, this drawn out 10-month process was purely politically motivated.

House Demo­crats are rar­ing to con­front the Na­tion­al Foot­ball League over its hand­ling of concus­sions, but they may find it as tough as passing against the Den­ver Bron­cos de­fense.

An earli­er at­tempt to hold NFL com­mis­sion­er Ro­ger Goodell ac­count­able for the game’s safety risks fizzled out and Con­gress’s oth­er deal­ings with sports leagues are of­ten dis­missed as grandstand­ing. The NFL’s bil­lions in profits and cul­tur­al status as the biggest sport in the coun­try also make it tough to touch, even on an is­sue as big as con­cus­sions.

Washington, DC – Representatives Linda Sánchez (CA-38) and Paul Cook (CA-8) introduced legislation this week honoring Vietnam War veterans. The resolution designates the last Saturday in March as “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day” and coincides with the anniversary of the day when the last United States combat troops completed their service and left Vietnam.

Tom Reed (NY-27), also a member of the Ways and Means Committee, today announced the introduction of HR 4708: the Credit for Caring Act. The bipartisan bill would provide a tax credit for care giving expenses.

A bipartisan pair of House members has offered legislation that would provide a tax credit for those who care for aging and disabled relatives.

The legislation is sponsored by Reps. Tom Reed (R-N.Y.) and Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) and is supported by groups including the AARP and the American Heart Association, according to a news release issued Monday.

“It’s a win-win. Families will stay together and those in need of assistance have access to better care,” Reed said.
