“President Biden and the Department of Homeland Security under Secretary Mayorkas inherited a dismantled and gutted immigration system. And although there is no way to fix four years of damage in four months, this Administration has worked around the clock to process children safely, humanely, and in line with our immigration laws.

“Tomorrow marks the 100th day since President Joseph Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were sworn into office. On that day in January – in the midst of a global pandemic and in the wake of an attack on our nation’s Capitol – the new Administration and both chambers of Congress were dealt a difficult task: restore faith in our institutions, hope in our ability to overcome this pandemic, and belief that together we can Build Back Better. There is still so much work to do, but we have made significant strides to accomplish these tasks in just 100 days.

Congresswomen Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today re-introduced the Fairness in Nursing Home Arbitration Act to protect elderly Americans in nursing homes. This legislation would prohibit long-term care facilities from requiring or soliciting residents to enter into pre-dispute, mandatory, binding arbitration agreements.

At the hearing, working moms from across the country shared their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic – including working from home and caring for their children and other family members while navigating pandemic restrictions. Ms. Braga, a mother of 2, spoke about working from home while caring not only for her children but for her mother as well. Congresswoman Sánchez asked her about the struggles she faced over the last year:

Today, Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38) was on site in Montebello at the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) headquarters for a Rite Aid COVID-19 vaccine clinic. Over the last month, Rite Aid has been organizing vaccine clinics in vulnerable and underserved California communities. In effort to get more residents in her district vaccinated, Congresswoman Sánchez worked to connect MAOF with Rite Aid for the vaccination clinic.

“The violence and hatred against the Asian-American community in California and across the country is deeply saddening and entirely unacceptable,” said Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez. “We’ve seen an alarming increase in xenophobic attacks since the pandemic began, ranging from verbal harassment and physical assaults to last week’s deadly shooting in Atlanta that left six women of Asian descent dead.”

“Those who risk their lives in uniform for our nation deserve nothing less than a hero’s welcome when they return,” said Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez. “Unfortunately, far too many who served in Vietnam never received that welcome, and instead were met with hostility fueled by public debate about the war. This resolution honors the heroes who served in Vietnam the way they should have always been honored. I have introduced this resolution every Congress since I was elected and I am proud to do so again alongside colleagues on both side of the aisle.”
