Sánchez Statement on Passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) issued the following statement on the passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka.

"My thoughts today are with AFL-CIO President Trumka's family, especially his wife, Barbara, and all those who knew and loved him. He was a giant in the fight for workers' rights, a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

"The son of Pennsylvania coal miners, President Trumka was a tireless advocate for the rights of all workers. He fought hard to make the labor movement more inclusive, standing with immigrant and undocumented workers and calling out racism.

"I'm deeply proud to have had the honor of calling him my colleague and friend. His memory will live on in the progress he made for countless workers and their right to have a voice."
