La Mirada - Working to ensure our veterans receive the recognition and honor they so deserve, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez presented service medals to Richard Alvarez and Richard Mariot, at the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 9148 in La Mirada on Friday night. Both men served our country in the Vietnam War and now reside in the city of Whittier.

Lakewood - Congresswoman Linda Sánchez awarded the Congressional Silver Medal for Volunteer Public Service, to Lakewood student Theresa Deister. Congress established the Congressional Awards program in 1979 to recognize initiative, achievement and service in young people. Sánchez hosted an awards ceremony at the district office, attended by Deister, her family, and volunteer organization leaders.

Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-39), along with eleven other members of Congress, commissioned a study on the effects of the so-called “Disabled Veterans Tax” which was released today. The report, titled “The Disabled Veterans Tax Impacts Thousands of Veterans in the Los Angeles Area,” found that disabled veterans in California lose $277 million dollars in benefits annually due to this tax.
