Washington, DC - Continuing her effort to address the growing needs of young people in our communities, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-39), today announced that she has successfully secured $150,000 for the Whittier Boys & Girls Club After-School Program in Los Nietos. The Omnibus Appropriations bill (H.R. 4818) passed the U.S. House of Representatives on November 20 by a vote of 344- to- 51, and President Bush is expected to sign it into law in the near future.

Washington, DC - Working to help protect the safety and security of our children, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-39) today announced that she has secured $150,000 for the Whittier Union High School District’s School Resource Officer program. Sánchez got the project included in the Omnibus Appropriations bill (H.R. 4818), which passed the U.S. House of Representatives on November 20th by a vote of 344-to-51, and is expected to be signed into law by President Bush in the near future.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-39) today hailed the House’s passage of an important amendment to block implementation of the Bush Administration’s new overtime pay regulations. The regulations, which took effect on August 23, do not compensate extra hours of work. They cut pay, and lengthen hours for workers. The amendment was passed by a vote of 223 to 193.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez today expressed opposition to the new regulations on overtime pay, which will take effect on August 23, and will cut the pay and lengthen the hours for workers making as little as $23,660. Middle-income workers making between $23,660 and $100,000 will feel the greatest impact of the regulations. A recent study by the Economic Policy Institute shows that this will deny overtime rights to at least six million workers, at a time when household incomes are down and prices are up.

The purpose of the event was to provide an open, town hall environment in which the community could discuss diversity and the challenges and opportunities that it presents. Creating unity out of diversity was a theme of the evening.

Washington, DC - Following through on her commitment to address the growing gang violence in our communities, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-39), today announced that she has successfully secured a commitment for funding for the Gang Alternatives Program (GAP) for schools throughout Southeast Los Angeles County. The GAP program offers anti-gang classes and services to elementary school children to discourage them from joining gangs and steer them toward positive activities.

Washington, DC -- Working to promote public safety, ensure communities have the resources necessary to fight crime, and give local law enforcement the best tools possible, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-39) has secured a funding commitment for the Lakewood Sheriff Station’s modernization project. Sánchez got the project included in the Commerce, Justice, State Fiscal Year 2005 Appropriations bill, which passed the House Appropriations Committee today, and is expected to be passed in the U.S. House of Representatives shortly.
