Sánchez: Trump Freezing Federal Aid Clearly Violates Constitution

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-Calif.) released the following statement after the Trump administration ordered a pause on grants, loans and other federal financial assistance:

“President Trump illegally freezing billions in federal aid programs will hurt working families, drive costs sky-high for everyone and wreak havoc on our economy.

"The programs that provide food for families, help students afford college, ensure seniors can remain in their homes, and fund essential cancer and medical research are now at risk of running out of funds when people need them the most.

“The Constitution is clear – Congress, not the president, holds the power of the purse. Democrats will not stand idly by while President Trump flagrantly violates the law. We will fight with everything in our power to restore this critical funding immediately."
