Sánchez on Supreme Courts bump stocks decision
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) released the following statement after the Supreme Court in a 6-3 decision struck down a federal ban on bump stocks: “It’s unconscionable that the Supreme Court would essentially allow machine guns back on our streets. Bump stocks serve no purpose beyond converting a semi-automatic gun into a fully automatic one, allowing a shooter to inflict maximum carnage in little time. “It’s been nearly seven years since the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history occurred at a Las Vegas country music concert. Using bump stocks, the gunman was able to fire more than 1,000 rounds in a matter of minutes, killing 60 people and wounding 413 more. “Federal law already bans machine guns. That ban should also apply to anything that functions as a machine gun. Congress must act to ban bump stocks before they are used in another mass shooting.” ### |
