Sánchez on Supreme Court presidential immunity decision

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision in Trump v. United States:

“Today’s decision by the conservative Supreme Court majority ignores a founding principle of our democracy – that no one is above the law.

“We know that Donald Trump abused the office of the presidency to try to enlist multiple cabinet officials to obstruct our nation’s electoral certification. This ruling does not change that, nor the fact that he’s already a convicted felon.

“This court has once again issued a decision that upends precedent set in previous presidential powers cases and will have ramifications for future presidencies. In doing so, the court has opened the door for criminal activity disguised as official acts.

“This is a sad day for our country.”
