Sánchez statement on unprecedented humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza

"As a mother, I am heartbroken by the death and suffering of Palestinian civilians, including babies, children, and women. The indiscriminate bombing in Gaza has been alarming and unacceptable – causing the unnecessary and tragic deaths of thousands of civilians and irreparable harm to critical infrastructure like hospitals.

"Israel is an important ally and partner to the U.S., and I have always supported its efforts to protect the Israeli people from Hamas, a terrorist organization that must be stopped. However, Israel’s right to defend itself is not without bounds and must comply with international law. Israel must change course and guarantee its operations target Hamas fighters and Hamas fighters alone.
