Sánchez Statement on Senate National Security Supplemental Text
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) released the following statement in response to the Senate National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act:
“After months of negotiations without a single Congressional Hispanic Caucus member present in the room, it is not surprising that from what I have read, this deal lacks the real fixes necessary to address the challenges at the border and our broken immigration system.
“This proposed legislation falls short in addressing the situation at the border and would actually exacerbate those issues. This bill guts our asylum system, shuts down our Southern borders, while failing to include protections for our Dreamers and undocumented community. I support critical foreign aid for our allies abroad and believe denying assistance to Ukraine would put our own security at risk, but Republicans continue to hold that aid hostage to enact their draconian-era immigration policies.
“Our immigration system is broken, and we need real fixes that would keep families together, secure the border, and address the root causes of migration. I stand ready to work with my colleagues and anyone who is serious about solving the problems at our border.”
