Sánchez on President Trump’s Inaugural Address, Executive Orders
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) released the following statement on President Trump’s inaugural address and announced executive orders:
“President Trump today painted a troubling and distorted picture of America, one that I do not recognize, and laid out a vision for our future that I fundamentally disagree with. From the unwise, like endless trade wars, to the unconstitutional, like ending birthright citizenship, to the outright strange, like renaming the Gulf of Mexico, he proposed a series of policies that leave our country weaker, not stronger.
“The reality is inflation is at historic lows, while wages continue to rise and jobs are added at a record pace thanks to Democratic policies and the other Biden administration. Instead of building on this success, President Trump seeks to turn back the clock and line the pockets of billionaires like Elon Musk and the wealthy donors who were allowed to attend his inauguration. I did not hear a single proposal that would bring down grocery prices or make life easier for the working-class families he left outside.
“Where there is room to work together, I will reach out to the White House and my colleagues on the other side of the aisle. But if they try to roll back the progress we’ve made, cruelly attack immigrants or LGBTQ communities, and rig the economy further for the rich, I will fight back.”
