Sánchez applauds President Biden’s executive actions protecting immigrant families

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) issued the following statement on President Biden’s executive order providing protections for non-citizen spouses of U.S. citizens and their non-citizen children and allowing college-educated Dreamers to obtain work visas:

“This is wonderful news for immigrant families in Southern California and throughout the United States. Thanks to President Biden’s actions, more families will remain together, free of the fear of being separated from their loved ones because of mixed immigration statuses.

“Additionally, millions of Dreamers who only know the United States as their home have worked hard their entire lives to obtain a college degree. Now, they can better their communities and strengthen our economy without fear of deportation.

“Today, my Congressional Hispanic Caucus colleagues and I celebrate these hard-fought protections. But the DACA program still hangs in the balance, and there are still millions of immigrants caught in our broken immigration system without similar protections. We need to pass comprehensive immigration reform and provide relief for more families.”
