Sánchez Statement on Supreme Court Decision in Biden v. Texas

June 30, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's decision that the Biden Administration's termination of the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPPs), or the "Remain in Mexico" policy, did not violate federal immigration law.

"Today's Supreme Court ruling marks a victory for the thousands of individuals and families exercising their right to seek asylum in the United States," said Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez. "The Supreme Court has affirmed what the Biden Administration made clear when they moved to end the archaic Remain in Mexico policy: people fleeing violence and persecution should be able to seek refuge within our borders, rather than be turned away and forced to wait in dangerous conditions."

Congresswoman Sánchez continued: "Now, it is imperative that the Biden Administration move quickly and deliberately to end the harmful Title 42 policy so we can avoid tragedies like the one we saw in San Antonio this week. The fight to build a more just and humane immigration system is far from over, and I will continue working together with the Administration, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and my colleagues in Congress to deliver on immigration reform, including a pathway to citizenship."
