Sánchez Statement on the Passage of Interim Emergency Coronavirus Funding

April 23, 2020

Washington, DC—Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38) issued this statement following her vote for an interim emergency relief package:

"The health and wellbeing of the American people has to be our north star as we navigate through these unprecedented times. Under this funding package, Democrats fought hard to build upon and improve several of the relief programs created through the CARES Act. Not only does this bill provide a desperately-needed lifeline to vulnerable small businesses, but it also answers the call of healthcare workers by delivering additional critical resources to our hospitals and healthcare providers. The bill also invests in ramping up coronavirus testing, which is key to reopening our economy.

"We need to make sure that our future relief efforts do not leave anyone behind. I was disappointed that Republicans blocked our attempts to assist the first responders and other critical workers on the frontlines of this crisis by refusing to provide additional funding for states, counties, and cities in this bill. As we continue down this long road of recovery, I will continue to fight for the lives and livelihoods of all working families."
