Sánchez statement on Parliamentarian’s ruling regarding a pathway to citizenship via budget reconciliation

WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) released the following statement regarding the Senate Parliamentarian's ruling on a pathway to citizenship via budget reconciliation:

"This weekend's decision by the Senate Parliamentarian is deeply disappointing, but our fight is far from over. We knew that our efforts to include immigration reform measures in the budget reconciliation package would be a back-and-forth process, and Democrats are prepared to present a new proposal that will move us forward.

"It is clear that including a pathway to citizenship has significant impacts on our nation's budget and will put us on track to a more vibrant economic future. Economists agree that a pathway to citizenship will expedite economic recovery, boost our gross domestic product (GDP), create thousands of new jobs, increase wages, and significantly bring down the deficit.

"I remain confident in the proposals Senate Democrats are presenting and I will continue working with my colleagues to ensure we are exhausting every legislative tool at our disposal."
