Rep. Sánchez Statement on House Passage of the Key Voting Rights Legislation

December 6, 2019

Washington, DCU.S. Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38) issued the following statement on the U.S. House of Representative passage of the Voting Rights Advancement Act. This legislation restores the full strength of the Voting Rights Act, protecting the right to vote and guaranteeing the equal protection of all Americans.

"Today, the House took another important step in strengthening voter protections across our country," said Congresswoman Sánchez. "In recent years, we have seen concerted efforts to gut basic protections as part of a larger agenda to restrict voting rights for people of color. Congress has a responsibility to safeguard the right to vote, as it goes to the very core of our democracy. While I'm not optimistic that the Senate Majority Leader will allow a vote on this important bill, I urge Americans to make their voices heard on this crucial issue."
