Washington, DCU.S. Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38) today released the following statement indicating her support for the Articles of Impeachment.

“I have seen enough.

“As much as I have disagreed with President Trump’s character and conduct, I still gave pause to when it came to considering his impeachment. So, I took the time to follow the facts. After reading the reports and transcripts and watching hours of testimony, it’s clear that facts are uncontested.

“President Trump put us in danger by withholding assistance to counter Russian aggression in Ukraine for his personal political gain. By doing so, he betrayed his oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. He abused his power by pressuring a foreign country to interfere in our elections, putting himself and his wants before the country.

“Then the President obstructed efforts to investigate his actions and hold him accountable. President Trump’s blanket refusal to cooperate with Congress’s inquiry sets him apart from past presidents. He blocked the release of documents and testimony from a dozen officials, using the power of his office to defy subpoenas from House of Representatives.

“While I realize that the Framers of the Constitution did not expect the invention of something called “Twitter,” they did write laws to uphold our shared values. I believe that we must stand up for these values so that no president ever again puts themselves above the security of our democracy.

“That is why it is with somber regard I will vote to impeach President Donald J. Trump. No one is above the law.”
