Linda Sánchez Statement on the Supreme Court’s Rulings on Trump’s Taxes

July 9, 2020

Washington, DC—Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38), Member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures, issued the following statement on the Supreme Court's two rulings regarding the ability of a state criminal court and Congress to enforce subpoenas of the President's financial records.

"Today the Supreme Court overwhelming upheld a key tenant of our system of government—that no one is above the law, not even the president," said Rep. Sánchez. "President Trump has had four years to release his taxes and the American people have a right to know why he's hiding them. Congress will continue to push for transparency to determine whether the President's financial entanglements pose a threat to the integrity of the office he holds. Accessing this information is key to how best we can update our laws to protect the credibility of our democracy."
