Linda Sánchez Statement on Supreme Court Ruling on Arizona Immigration Law (June 25, 2012)

June 25, 2012

Washington, DC- Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-39)released the following statement today after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled thatthree out of four key provisions of Arizona's SB 1070 law wereunconstitutional:

"I have always believed Arizona's law wasunconstitutional, and I am pleased that the Supreme Court rejected most of thekey provisions of SB 1070. However, I am troubled that the Court voted touphold the requirement that local law enforcement check the immigration statusof anyone they feel might be in this country illegally. This misguidedprovision will lead to racial profiling and discrimination, which violate our country'svalues.

"Today's ruling does make it clear that we need acomprehensive, federal solution that puts in place a rational, safe andefficient immigration process. The American people deserve an immigrationsystem that will support our communities and make it possible for millions ofyoung people to contribute to the country they already call home."
