January 24, 2012

Washington, DC -- Congresswoman LindaSánchez (CA-39) released the following statement in response to PresidentObama's State of the Union address:

"I applaudPresident Obama for staying focused on the importance of continuing to build aneconomy that gives every American the opportunity to fulfill the Americandream. Since 2009, we've added 3.2million jobs and had twenty-two consecutive months of private sector jobgrowth. We are moving in the rightdirection, but there's much more work that needs to be done.

"It iscritically important for Southern California that we restore the health of ourhousing sector. In order for our economy to fully recover, we have to pursuesolutions that help homeowners with underwater mortgages.

"We should also fully support the Americanmanufacturing sector, which is creating jobs for the first time in almost twodecades. We should build on thisprogress by embracing policies like the ‘Make it in America' agenda, whichencourages innovation and helps our country stay competitive in the globalmarket.

"Congressmust make creating jobs its top priority. I encourage House Republicans to join with Democrats and work togetheron legislation that puts Americans back to work."
