Linda Sánchez Statement on December Jobs Report (Jan 6 2012)
Washington, DC- Congresswoman Linda Sánchez(CA-39) released the following statement after the Department of Laborannounced today that the economy added 200,000 jobs in December and theunemployment rate fell to 8.5 percent—the lowest rate in nearly 3 years:
"The December jobs report is a very encouraging sign that the economy isimproving. However, there is much morework that needs to be done to bring down an unacceptably high unemploymentrate.
"It is vitalthat Congress make job creation its top priority right now. We have gone an entire year without a seriousjob creation plan, and the American people simply can't afford for Republicansto continue to waste time with destructive partisan games.
"It's timefor Congress to get to work on policies that strengthen our economy and putAmericans back to work. I encourageHouse Republicans to work with Democrats on a long-term extension of thepayroll tax cut, which would help stimulate the economy and put more money backin the pockets of 160 million Americans."
