Linda Sánchez Statement on Agreement to End Port Clerical Workers Strike (December 5, 2012)
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman LindaSánchez (CA-39) released the following statement after an agreement was reachedbetween the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 63 OfficeClerical Unit and management. The agreement will bring to an end theeight-day strike at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach
"I am pleased that labor and management were able to worktogether and reach an agreement so that the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beachcan now resume full operations," said Congresswoman Sánchez. "I'm proudof my brothers and sisters of ILWU Local 63 Office Clerical Unit for taking astand against outsourcing, and I'm glad they will be back at work today. I wantto thank management for negotiating a new deal with clerical workers, who nowhave a contract after two years of waiting. I also want to thank thecommunity for standing behind hard working families as they fought to protectgood paying jobs."
Congresswoman Sánchez is a Co-Chair of the House Labor andWorking Families Caucus, which she also co-founded. Congresswoman Sánchezis also an active and card-carrying member of the International Brotherhood ofElectrical Workers (IBEW) Local 441.
