Linda Sánchez Slams Republicans for Rejecting Humane Immigration Policy (June 6, 2013)

June 6, 2013

Washington, DC – Today,Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-38) slammed House Republicans after they voted to roll back protections from deportation for hundreds of thousands of "DREAMers"—undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children.

"I am deeply disappointed that House Republicans would reject such a positive step toward reforming our immigration system," said Congresswoman Sánchez. "Today's vote ignores the fact that the American people fundamentally reject the idea of deporting 800,000 young people who abide by our laws and want to give back to the country they call home. It is time to stop playing politics and fix our broken immigration system so that hardworking people have the opportunity to educate themselves and help our great nation prosper and grow."

Today, House Republicans passed an amendment to the Homeland Security Appropriations Act barring funding from being used to implement President Obama's 2012 order directing the Department of Homeland Security to stop the deportation of individuals who were brought to our country as young people and do not present a risk to national security or public safety.
