Linda Sánchez Slams Job Outsourcing Legislation (Sept 15 2011)

September 15, 2011

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Linda Sánchez released the following statement concerning the House passage of H.R.2587, which will weaken the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), make it easier for corporations to send American jobs overseas, and undermine collective bargaining rights.

"This bill really is the ‘Job Outsourcers' bill of rights,' and it will stop job creation in its tracks. By limiting the action the National Labor Relations Board can take, this bill will ship jobs overseas and crush workers' rights.

"This bill also undermines collective bargaining rights, which makes zero sense to me. All workers in this country should have the ability to negotiate with their employer for salary and benefits. The ability to collectively bargain isn't something that costs one dime.

"On top of these problems, this bill allows employers to punish employees for exercising their rights to join a union and demand safer working conditions. We should be focused on creating jobs and empowering workers, not making it easier for companies to ship American jobs overseas to countries with poor working conditions.

"If we are truly serious about creating jobs in this country, Congress should realize that we need a strong NLRB. This bill is a bad idea, and I am firmly committed to continuing to work hard to create jobs and fight for legislation that helps hard working families."
