Linda Sánchez Applauds Supreme Court’s DACA Decision
Washington, DC—Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38), Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’s Immigration Taskforce, issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s ruling that the Trump administration’s decision to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program is unlawful.
“The Supreme Court’s decision is a spark of hope. It brings certainty to thousands of DACA recipients across the country, especially for those Dreamers at the forefront of this legal battle and those working on the frontlines of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Today’s decision also reminds us that the Trump administration’s racist attempts to scapegoat immigrants are not based on the rule of law and will not prevail.
“I want to thank every DACA recipient who has stepped up to fight on the frontlines of the pandemic. Despite all the uncertainty and stress you had to face, you continued to play vital roles in our communities. As health care workers, teachers, food supply workers, and more, you have contributed to help keep communities healthy and our economy running. You have proven time and time again that you are every bit as American as native-born citizens and that you deserve to stay in this country.
“I am proud to stand with Dreamers today, and I am committed to fighting until they have permanent relief and a pathway to citizenship. Washington needs to do the right thing and make the Dream and Promise Act the law of the land. To all the Dreamers, your home is here.”
