Linda Sánchez Statement on President Trump's Executive Order Rolling Back the Clean Power Plan

Lawmaker says Americans, “will pay with the health and wellbeing of their families.”

Washington, DC – Representative Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38), Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, today released the following statement in response to the executive order signed by President Trump to roll back the Clean Power Plan:

"Today is another example of how President Donald Trump's policies are not helping America's working families. His executive order rolling back the Clean Power Plan does not help create jobs. Instead, it will make our communities sicker and allow polluters to continue poisoning our air and our water while pocketing even greater profits.

"Nationwide, 31% of Latinos live within 30 miles of a power plant and are 165% more likely to live in counties with unhealthy levels of pollution. The consequences of these environmental conditions are evident in the high rates of asthma and other illnesses among Latinos. Instead of fighting for healthier communities, this president is doing everything in his power to make it easier to pollute our environment.

"As long this president and his administration continue to deny the overwhelming consensus in the scientific community, it will be the working men and women of this country who will pay the greatest price. They will pay with the health and wellbeing of their families."
